QMUL Laws portraits: 26th Jan 17

A portrait afternoon yesterday at Queen Mary University London, updating shots for the Law Dept faculty. A nice and simple one-light setup with a reflector providing a bit of fill, utilising the stylish wooden panelling on the staff room wall, and everyone is looking a lot more professional. Check out the before/after to see what a difference some well-considered portraits can make.

As is often the case, I heard a lot of “I hate having my photograph taken” and “I’m not photogenic at all.” But as always happens, a nice and relaxed 5-10 mins with each subject and everyone is now much happier – and pleasantly surprised! – with their new portrait. Job done!

Jon James London is live! 16th Jan 17

I’m very pleased to be able to announce my new website is now live. Showcasing my commercial work in the portrait, property, education and event sectors, it’s the long-overdue sister site to my advertising work at

Have a look around and I hope you’ll like what you see. I’m very pleased with how it’s come together. And needless to say, if I can be of help with any forthcoming photographic projects, please feel free to drop me line at or call for a chat.

Oh, and if you were wondering, James is my middle name!
